Numero Quattro of the 10 Day Blog Challenge has me finding my superpowers, ironically the same day that my husband suggested that we go as Superman, Wonder Woman, and miniature Batman for Halloween this year. I’m not talking about my ability to burn dinner in a single bound, or hit a curb every time I pull into my subdivision, as if I’m legally blind. A “superpower” in this sense of the word is something we are good at AND enjoy doing. Do you know how hard it can be to take a look at yourself and say out loud, “I’m really good at XYZ and I enjoy it completely!” I think we assume we know what our strengths are, usually it has to do with what our current line of work is and whether we are fired or promoted in doing that particular thing. It doesn’t mean we enjoy it, though.
So, I thought long and hard about it. Then after about 15 seconds, I just asked my husband what he thought. Stop judging! It’s research.
He said I’m really funny, especially when i have a couple beers. I scratched that off the list, since I’d like to build a career off my superpowers and take my liver along with me on the ride.
He also reminded me of my vacation planning and organizational skills. Very careful to tiptoe through the discussion as if walking on a pavement littered with glass, he managed to not utter the words, “Well you drive me f%$#ing crazy every time we have to plan a trip because youobsess about every detail for an entire week looking at flight options.” No, he didn’t say all that, but I could seeeeee it in his eyes! I happen to
have a penchant for finding cheap flights to awesome vacation destinations, and it works out in his favor so whatever. SUPERPOWER #1 BANG POW
Going back to the 2 beers + me = Comedy Central, another superpower could be my incessant socializing. I do love interacting with people, especially if it’s talking about things that interest me — I often get off topic a lot at work, surprise surprise. However, it’s super cool to connect with people, especially from different countries and backgrounds. That is super fascinating to me.
So maybe we are on to something in this discussion! What are your superpowers? If you could do anything, what would it be? Leave a comment and share with me.
Until next Bat-time, same Bat-place… Cheers!
